About
We are not just a food and clothing supplier. Rather we seek to build trusted relationships with those in need that allow us to assist them in finding the help they need while providing mentorship and spiritual guidance. We believe that sharing the Gospel and helping someone develop a relationship with Jesus is best accomplished by first developing a trusted relationship with the person and helping meet their physical needs.
Dwight Gwinn, the founder of God Loves You Outreach, had several years of living in and out of addition. In his 30’s he became homeless. During this time, he had a few people that went out of their way to help him. By accepting this help, he saw results that were beyond his expectations. Through this help he was able to realize a better life and had enormous gratitude for how he had been introduced to a new way of living.
Dwight had worked for himself in construction but felt the need to give back. He began using his construction skills with a ministry that took him into downtown Louisville. He began working on one particular house in an area characterized by drug addition, prostitution, low incomes, mental illness, and far too many overdoses and deaths in the area. Dwight was moved with compassion for these people. He began talking to the people in the area. Having lived through a similar situation he found it easy to simply talk with them and at times these talks lead to relationships. For over a year, Dwight began to visit many of the people on Saturdays. He began to feed many of these people. He found that simply helping them financially was not really helping them. He was later joined by a friend from a Bible study. They feed, clothed and listened to their stories. Some would even pray with Dwight and his friend. They began wearing t-shirts that said, “God Loves You”. A few other volunteers joined the effort.
Dwight and the volunteers went on to build trusting relationships with those that would allow that. Dwight and the volunteers met many people, some of whom they have seen grow enough to pray openly with them, others have received help finding work. Dwight regularly receives phone calls from some of them, just to talk.
Success is measured in terms that are not always easily seen or recognized by the eyes of many. We simply show God’s Love to others, knowing that the development of trusted relationships will lead to opportunities to build a foundation that will lead them to a better physical and spiritual life.
Dwight has been leading this effort since 2021. The needs among the homeless and poor are great and heart wrenching but having found a better life from similar situations Dwight’s passion for these less fortunate people has led to the formation of God Loves You Outreach with the hope that more people can experience the truth that God Loves You and realize a better life.
